“I want to do big things,” senior Taylor George said, as she ponders her future and what she wishes to accomplish with music.
George has been singing since the age of 6. She first began when she went to the Ruhala Performing Arts Center in East Lansing. “My family is very musical, so it’s just been a part of me,” she said.
George records music, particularly covers of her favorite musicians, at the Studio Sound Productions in Dimondale. George discovered Studio Sound Productions through her previous voice teacher in Diamondale.
“My music inspiration would have to be Christina Aguilera,” George said. “She is an amazing singer. The songs she writes and how she sings them show power and emotion that I hope to be able to show through my music eventually. Her uniqueness makes her a good role model.”
George not only sings but plays the piano. Her favorite song to play is “Holy Grail,” a popular song by Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake. “I prefer playing the piano and singing rather than just singing because I feel I can express myself more,” George said.
Pop, soul and R&B, George believes, help her to express herself the most. “Everyone knows the popular pop songs, so it’s cool to make them different by adding my own style,” George said. “Soul and R&B are also my style because they are more personal and relatable songs in my opinion. They usually have an upbeat rhythm similar to pop, but they’re more soulful and fun to sing.”
Naturally, performing is a big part of her passion for singing. “Before I get up in front of people I’m really nervous and scared. When I’m singing, I’m not thinking about other people anymore. I focus and try to be confident to do what I know I can do,” George said.
“When I’m out of high school I want to make singing a career by owning my own record label and doing the things that I love.”
