By the time you see the “Twisted Devils” in action at the robotics competitions, a lot of prep and planning has gone into making these robots.
“First, they release the information about what we are doing this year. Then we go into our own separate rooms and brainstorm ideas on what the robot should look like,” sophomore Nathan Wisser said.
“Next we go into the build phase where we gather parts and start doing basic programming. And then after, we do any modifications needed to perfect our robot,” Wisser said.
Robotics is more than just building the robot–many sub-teams are within the main team. Electrical, Media, Marketing and Safety all play a factor in the process.
Safety is a major job when it comes to the robotic competitions.
As a safety team member, freshman Georgia Barton said their duty was to make sure everyone did their jobs safely.
“Like wearing their safety glasses and lifting the robots the right way,” Barton said.
Other members ran the media aspect of the team.
“I operate the web site, and this year I designed our logo,” sophomore Lori Swift said.
Swift isn’t the only one who works on the media team.
“I work on the web site, take pictures and operate the ‘Twisted Devils’ YouTube channel,” senior Chase Courtney said.
While these aspects of the team are important, the members who make and operate the robot allow the team to compete.
“I work on the construction and the fabrication making sure that it operates correctly,” sophomore Rowan Sheehan said.
