The Science Olympiad team placed 15th overall, 7th in Michigan and 1st in the region in an online invitational hosted by the University of Michigan on Feb. 20.
They placed 61st in their only other tournament of the year back in Oct. which was also held in an online format. This barred most spectators but students have not let this impact their performances.
“There are no spectators this year but I don’t think that’s going to affect anybody because when the students go they’re not performing for an audience, they’re testing their devices and it just happens that people are allowed to watch,” head coach Mike Reed said.
The team’s next tournament will be the state competition, hosted by Michigan State University on May 1 online. If they finish in the top two, they move on to the national competition held on May 22 in person by Arizona State University.
