The old marching band uniforms were worn down, stained and expensive to replace, but after 13 years of wear and tear, the band made the decision in 2012 to raise $95,000 for new ones.
“With some of the old uniforms, you could tell there had been things spilled on them,” senior Chris Harper said. “Some were covered in dirt and stains that nothing could not get out.”
Following six years of fundraising and donations from a former band member and the Fenton Education Foundation, the band placed its order for the new uniforms.
“We aren’t allowed to eat messy foods or drink colored liquids when we’re wearing the new uniforms to avoid staining them,” Harper said. “It took a long time to raise the money, so we want to keep them as clean as possible.”
The look of the new uniforms provided the band the professional look they had hoped for.
“Drumline had to wait to get our hats because they weren’t shipped on time, but when we finally got them, the wait was worth it,” freshman Nate Dymond said. “The last game was the most fun of the season with our ‘Thriller’ dance. The hats made the drum section look put together.”
The 13 years of Drive for Your School Fundraisers and mattress sales, the band retired the old uniforms and stepped out onto Ivan Williams field with its dream of a fresh and clean look fulfilled.
