Jan. 31 was a snow day for West Hills students, but a busy day for Mr. Honeyman One hundred years to the day after the birth of the legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson, Mr. Honeyman went to Scholastic headquarters in New York for a Facebook livestream with Mr. Robinson’s daughter Sharon, to speak about the Breaking Barriers writing contest, which is designed to get kids to acknowledge some struggle they faced and how they have used some of Robinson’s traits to overcome it, as well as Jackie Robinson’s legacy. “It was magical,” Mr. Honeyman said. “We spent over 45 minutes talking about her father’s legacy and the power of language to empower people, plus I got to give a shout out to my incredible students whom I love!” — Tyler Richmond
