Social studies teacher Margaret Pierce is leading a social studies-focused trip this coming spring. Students will have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. and learn about our nation’s government.
The trip will take place from April 19 to 24, and is open to all South students. Pierce said the trip will have a focus on U.S. government and history, with events including visits to the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, as well as a “Capitol Hill Day”.
“People really enjoy (Capitol Hill Day),” Pierce said. “You can observe a Congressional Committee hearing, explore the Capitol Visitor Center and witness the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in action.”
The event is run by Close-Up Washington, whose program includes three meals a day, hotel and airfare fees, entrance fees to all the monuments and more. The cost of the trip comes out to $1,902 per student, Pierce said.
“We’re all U.S. citizens, so anyone can enjoy (this trip),” Pierce said.
