UPDATE: The WARM Center will not be open March 11-12 because of restored power to most homes.
Grosse Pointe Public Schools, Services for Older Citizens and Grosse Pointe police are opening a WARM Center at Brownell Middle School in Grosse Pointe Farms. Located at 260 Chalfonte Ave., the center is open from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The WARM Center will close if power is restored.
People coming should bring a cot or air mattress, sleeping bag or blanket and a pillow from home. GPPSS will allow participants to use the locker room showers and bathrooms. Children must be with a parent or guardian at all times. Brownell custodians as well as local policy officers will be on site.
RSVP for the WARM Center by calling 313-333-8421 by 8:00 p.m. There will be a sign-in desk in the multi-purpose room. Parking is available behind the school building.
“We want to create a warm safe place to sleep, shower and stay warm,” GPPSS community relations specialist Rebecca Fannon said in an email to district staff.
