Personality Profile
While she sat in SRT, senior Madison
Wegener made a spontaneous decision and
later that afternoon she left the school
parking lot in her Buick Rendezvous. She
headed toward JD Michel Salon intending to
snip off a significant amount of her hair.
Once Wegener arrived, she booked an
appointment with the receptionist and after
a lengthy wait, she was led to a washing
station to clean and soak her hair. Wegener
sat while her stylist fastened her hair into a
single ponytail and made the first cut, leaving
no room for second thoughts.
“Although it was an impulsive decision,
donating my hair had always been on my
bucket list and it was definitely worth the
cause,” Wegener said. “I had 10 inches of my
hair cut off and donated to Children With
Hair Loss, an organization dedicated to
providing wigs to children who can’t grow
hair. I chose this organization because I liked
how they never charged a child for hair care.”
One of the many factors that played into her
decision was the encouragement and support
of her mother. As Wegener’s hair was
trimmed 10 inches shorter, her mother stood
with her every step of the way.
“Three years ago, my mother donated
her hair in honor of Katie Wyatt, and she
inspired me to do the same,” Wegener said.
“My mom came with me to the appointment
to take pictures and support me. Having her
there made me feel more comfortable and
she kept me company during the process.”
After about an hour with the stylist cutting
her hair, Wegener posed for an “after”
picture of her new hairdo and she and her
mom left the salon. Although Wegener lost
10 inches of her hair, she said she gained a
sense of accomplishment and checked it off
of her bucket list.
