After starting with a 3-7 record, the Tigers needed something in order to recover. In the midst of the Tiger’s run, they faced a double header against their rival Holly. Welcoming the Bronchos to Fenton’s home field, the Tigers mercied Holly in the first of two and continued the play into the second.
“Last year, we split Holly so it was nice to come back and sweep them 12-1 in the first game and 16-1 in the second,” junior Griffin Carr said. “We knew coming into the games that they weren’t the best team, but we didn’t expect to come out and mercy them both games. We were more focused during practices, which helped us become more successful. Everyone in the lineup scored because our team was hitting so well. This double header was definitely one of my favorites all year because they are our rival and it was even more meaningful because it was a part of a 16 win and five loss period.”
During both games, junior Tanner Tallman remembered the atmosphere of the fans and the clubhouse, along with the success of his team.
“The environment of the game was really exciting and the intensity was high,” Tallman said. “It was great to see everyone cheering and not worrying about losing. It felt amazing to beat a rival. We always want to beat teams in the Metro League and to sweep them with a mercy just made the feeling that much better. The games against Holly were two of our highest scoring games the whole season.”
The Tigers doubleheader mercy of Holly were just two games of the team’s winning streak that contributed to their 19-13 season, just one win away from their first 20 win season in 10 years.
