Country music played in the\u00a0background as everyone stood in\u00a0silence. Some held red candles and\u00a0others readied their lanterns for the\u00a0slow ascent into the darkness. Almost\u00a0as if a collective breath was released,\u00a0hundreds of sky lanterns are let off into\u00a0the night sky.<\/p>\n

The Waterford community and many\u00a0others came together to be a part of\u00a0something extraordinary. Over recent\u00a0years, many friends were lost and many\u00a0cries for help went unanswered. It was\u00a0time for the Waterford community to\u00a0come together and put a stop to it.<\/p>\n

Senior Noah Jutis was one of the\u00a0voices who realized this had to come to\u00a0a stop. Jutis is the creator of the event\u00a0that lit up the sky on September 10. The\u00a0event was created with the purpose of\u00a0raising awareness about the issue of\u00a0teenage suicide. That one night, many\u00a0believe changed hundreds of lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter how close you are\u00a0with the victims of suicide, it still affects\u00a0you,\u201d Jutis said. \u201cAs much pain as suicides\u00a0bring, you are taught so much from it\u00a0happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sadly, this is a much-too-familiar\u00a0feeling many teenagers have\u00a0experienced. Senior Chloe Denton\u00a0explains how she has dealt with the loss\u00a0of a loved one.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s proved to me who has been\u00a0there the whole time and who I\u00a0didn\u2019t need to be around. It made me\u00a0appreciate people in general more. I\u00a0don\u2019t take anyone for granted and I\u00a0make a point to compliment someone if\u00a0I\u2019m thinking it. I wasn\u2019t doing everything\u00a0I should have been doing, but I\u2019m\u00a0getting back on track. It just takes time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many students came together that\u00a0September night to reminisce the\u00a0memories of those forgotten; they also\u00a0came together to offer support to one\u00a0another and remind their community\u00a0that together, anything is possible no\u00a0matter what the obstacle is.<\/p>\n
