Mini-mags, special sections and special supplements should be entered in this category. Entries must include multiple spreads designed as a unit to explore a topic; typically non-traditional coverage<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judging Criteria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Writing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Copy (if traditional copy is used) has engaging angle, solid lead and meaningful student quotes that enrich story and reflect effective interviewing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Captions begin with strong lead and contain at least two sentences that answer all reader\u2019s questions and clearly identifies all people<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Copy and captions show evidence of adequate research<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Clever, engaging primary\/secondary headline combination draws reader into the story and establishes visual\/verbal connection between photos and copy<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The primary\/secondary headline combination clarifies the content of the spread<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Primary headline is short and grabs the reader\u2019s attention<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Secondary headline is sentence-like and summarizes the story\u00a0
    Adheres to rules of good journalism including:<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Use of active voice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
