Opening and Closing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The introductory and closing spreads. <strong>FOR THE ENTRY TITLE<\/strong>, use your theme. You may include a brief description of your theme in the Additional Information field. <strong>LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER SCHOOL. <\/strong>Submit up to 2 PDF or image files of opening and closing. <strong>FOR SPREADS (a spread is two facing pages), if possible <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mipamsu.org\/submit\/how-to-using-mipas-contest-submission-system\/#spread\">save your entry as a spread<\/a>, creating a single horizontal page out of two vertical pages. <strong>Otherwise, the judges may not see both pages of your spread together and will not get the full impact of your design<\/strong>. Contiguous pages should be submitted in a single PDF file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>JUDGING CRITERIA<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Designs are fresh and contemporary, setting them apart from standard designs of the interior pages, but are similar to each other and continue the verbal\/visual theme statement introduced on the cover.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Photos, copy, captions, headlines and white space are arranged to help reader begin and end story of year<\/li><li>Designs carry elements of theme concept<\/li><li>While designs may be innovative, they adhere to journalistic guidelines and show evidence of careful planning<\/li><li>Copy has engaging angle, solid lead and, if included, meaningful student quotes that enrich story and reflect effective interviewing<\/li><li>Copy should provide examples of events, circumstances specific to this school, this school year&nbsp;<\/li><li>Captions begin with strong lead and contain at least two sentences that answer all reader\u2019s questions and clearly identifies all people<\/li><li>Copy and captions show evidence of adequate research<\/li><li>A clever, engaging headline draws reader into story and establishes visual\/verbal connection between photos and copy<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adheres to rules of good journalism including:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>use of active voice<\/li><li>freedom from editorial comment<\/li><li>careful editing and proofreading<\/li><li>correct use of grammar<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bailey Burt, Nya Stetson &amp; Neil Sachdeva The Hornet Saline MS 1st PlaceDivision MS, Yearbook Visual and Verbal Y-30.
