{"id":4765,"date":"2020-06-16T10:22:32","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T14:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=4765"},"modified":"2020-06-16T10:22:32","modified_gmt":"2020-06-16T14:22:32","slug":"its-the-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=4765","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s The Thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Staff<\/strong><br \/>\nEcho<br \/>\nGrand Blanc HS<br \/>\n1st Place Division 1, Yearbook Visual<br \/>\nStudent Life Spread<\/p>\n<p><b>JUDGING CRITERIA<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Designed as two-page visual unit, arrangement of photos, headline, copy, captions and white space invite reader onto spread and show careful planning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dominance is established and other elements are arranged in such a way as to lead reader\u2019s eye around spread<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adequate external margins provide frame for spread contents and are defined by at least one element on each side<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photos effectively cropped, of varied size, shape and content; content concentrates on action photos<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Center of interest in photo(s) is not trapped in gutter; action and faces in photos do not face off spread<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-rectangular photos, tilted photos and other special treatments are used sparingly and effectively to enhance overall design<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graphics and typography enhance readability and attractiveness of design<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Headline has contemporary design and establishes visual\/verbal connection between photos and copy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy and captions are readable size and use readable font<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captions should touch photos to which they refer. Group or clustered captions are permitted, but attention has been paid to making them easily accessible to reader<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While designs may be innovative, they adhere to journalistic guidelines<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">long with writing their own material and playing songs like \u201cCigarette Daydreams,\u201d by Cage The Elephant and \u201cRiptide,\u201d by Vance Joy, juniors Scott Crawford, Rosemary Farrehi, Ashton Gaulin, Lorena Haber, Faith Webber, and Kane Wondero connected through the melodies of music. After building up an informal jamming group with guitars, they brought out their inner musician.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cI remember we were all going to play at Lorena\u2019s because she had everything set up,\u201d Crawford said. \u201cSo we all just hung out one time, and that\u2019s what started it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">With no designated day to practice, they tapped into their creative potential whenever they got together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cWe [hung out and played guitar] last Saturday,\u201d Haber said. \u201cThat is the only time we\u2019ve done it, but we\u2019ve gone to Guitar Center before and messed around there, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">They had the same musical interests outside of playing. In addition to their musicality, the group bonded through other activities as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cWe enjoy the same genre of music,\u201d Haber said. \u201cLast Friday, we all went to the Planetarium and saw a light show with Pink Floyd\u2019s album. It was really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The group also enjoyed each other\u2019s company in general, and each thought highly of the other.
