Tyler Seib<\/strong><br \/>\nWarrior<br \/>\nUtica HS<br \/>\n1st Place Division 3, Yearbook Verbal<br \/>\nCaption Writing<\/p>\n<p><b>JUDGING CRITERIA<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Begin with strong leads, not name or title<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contain at least two sentences that answer all reader\u2019s questions without stating the obvious<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evidence of adequate research which provides information that adds to reader\u2019s understanding of event or situation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clearly identifies all people in photo with both first and last names (sports captions should also identify names of players on opposing team)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adhere to rules of good journalism including: active voice, typically the first sentence in present tense and remaining sentences are in past tense, freedom from editorial comment, careful editing and proofreading to eliminate mechanical errors, correct use of grammar<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">The sound, the roaring, the stampede. In the distance, you\u2019re able to see the varsity football team walking to the stadium with arms locked and ready to protect their house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cMy emotion is a bit of nervousness and a bit of being hyped up, seeing all the fans and the whole game day atmosphere,\u201d junior Shane Lutz said. \u201cIt\u2019s something great to experience at Swinehart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">On Friday night home games, the team prepared by lining up and waiting for their coach, Matt Marulli, to motivate them. Before every game, Marulli inspired his team with a new speech to get them ready to go battle on their field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThe first home game verses Grosse Pointe South, I remember coach saying for us to take in the moment, because you never know how long you have,\u201d senior Jordan Hester said. \u201cAlso, that we have to own the moment and prove people wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">As they listened to the crowd across the street, the team made its way over Shelby Road to Swinehart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cMy favorite parts are having the cheerleaders make the tunnel to walk through,\u201d senior Matthew Hoppe said, \u201cand smelling the field while walking over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Everyone had a personal favorite walk over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cMy most memorable walk over is the walk last year before the playoff game,\u201d junior Shane Lutz said. \u201cI think it was a great experience for us underclassmen and made us realize the importance of the tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The walk over to the stadium was one of the most memorable things about game night to the players and fans.
