{"id":4679,"date":"2020-06-03T17:15:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T21:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=4679"},"modified":"2020-06-03T17:15:39","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T21:15:39","slug":"barbies-bikes-and-everything-nice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=4679","title":{"rendered":"Barbies, Bikes, and Everything Nice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Staff<\/strong><br \/>\nEsprit de Corps<br \/>\nEisenhower HS<br \/>\n1st Place Division 2, Yearbook Verbal<br \/>\nOrganizations Writing<\/p>\n<p><b>JUDGING CRITERIA<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solid lead that draws reader into story<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meaningful student quotes that enrich story and reflect effective interviewing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evidence of adequate research<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Story does not center on purpose of group or simply review their activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adheres to rules of good journalism including: short paragraphs, effective transitions and use of active voice, freedom from editorial comment, careful editing and proofreading to eliminate mechanical errors, correct use of grammar<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">D<\/span>ashing through the hallways like Santa\u2019s reindeer through snow, student representatives from classes race to submit money to student council members in the media center before the 10 minute timers run out each hour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cI feel like it\u2019s great to help out the community,\u201d senior student council president <b>Therese Reinhold <\/b>said. \u201cAs a kid, you always imagine Santa coming down your chimney and receiving a large amount of presents. For kids who don\u2019t receive, it hurts a lot and it scars them. I know it sounds kind of weird; but it\u2019s true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Toys for Tots telethon has been a school tradition since 2012. In an historic event, the students and staff donated a total of $17,245 during the week; surpassing previous Toys for Tots drives by thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cI\u2019m so proud of our council and grateful that we were able to surpass the amount from last year. It makes you feel really good because you know that we are going to be able to help out so many more families this year with the extra two to three thousand dollars we raised. It\u2019s really fulfilling to know that we got to help that many more people,\u201d senior student council vice president <b>Cayla Kadets <\/b>said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">All the money donated and toys collected by student council goes to help local children in need, according to the Toys for Tots organization. All gifts collected will be distributed to families in the metro Detroit area who need them most.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to be able to help out a lot of kids this Christmas,\u201d principal <b>Jared McEvoy <\/b>said, \u201cand that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">So many toys were donated that the Marine\u2019s collection extended into a two day process, for the first time in school history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">\u201cI though it was crazy that it took three whole truck loads.
