{"id":4675,"date":"2020-06-03T14:52:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T18:52:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=4675"},"modified":"2020-06-03T14:52:39","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T18:52:39","slug":"snow-days-for-the-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=4675","title":{"rendered":"Snow Days For The Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Rebeka Ancevski<\/strong><br \/>\nEsprit de Corps<br \/>\nEisenhower HS<br \/>\n1st Place Division 2, Yearbook Verbal<br \/>\nFeature Writing &#8211; Student Life<\/p>\n<p><b>JUDGING CRITERIA<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clear, relevant, engaging angle<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solid lead that draws reader into story<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meaningful student quotes that enrich story and reflect effective interviewing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evidence of adequate research<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adheres to rules of good journalism including: short paragraphs, effective transitions and use of active voice, freedom from editorial comment, careful editing and proofreading to eliminate mechanical errors, correct use of grammar<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">T<\/span>he feeling of waiting for \u201cthe call\u201d at night, or most times at four in the morning, happened to all of us before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">During the week of January 20th, nature brought on a polar vortex and about six inches of snow for four consecutive days; totaling an unheard of seven days off for the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cI felt very relieved that I got the call because my two hardest classes were fifth and sixth hour so I had more time to study for exams,\u201d senior <b>Isabella Krupa <\/b>said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Whether it\u2019s skiing, sleeping, or staying indoors, students spend their cold and snow days in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">\u201cOn a snow day, I grab a bowl of popcorn and I watch a good movie,\u201d senior <b>Aaron Ko <\/b>said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Though snow days bring days off, they also bring the obvious: bad weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">\u201cThe cold weather sucks, I personally don\u2019t like it, but I like the days off,\u201d senior <b>Antonio Nikprelaj <\/b>said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Not liking cold weather is common, but some people do find some joy in it and partake in a variety of winter sports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">\u201cWhen it\u2019s cold out, I find it most entertaining to go skiing.
