Unlike professional\u00a0and collegiate basketball,\u00a0high school basketball has\u00a0no shot clock. \u201cI wish high\u00a0school basketball had a\u00a0shot clock because playing\u00a0defense for a minute can\u00a0get annoying,\u201d senior\u00a0Joshua Denning said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">With no shot clock,\u00a0teams could take as long\u00a0as they need in order to\u00a0get the shot that they want,\u00a0thus taking up more time.\u00a0This was often put to use\u00a0in a strategy to eat up the\u00a0clock in a close game. \u201c You\u00a0can hold the ball at the end\u00a0if you need to win a game\u00a0but it is unfair sometimes,\u201d\u00a0junior Caleb Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Some thought the idea\u00a0of a shot clock played a\u00a0key role in how the game\u00a0was played and that the\u00a0change from no shot clock\u00a0to shot clock can be such\u00a0a drastic difference that\u00a0leaves unprepared when\u00a0they go to the next level.\u00a0\u201cI feel like a shot clock is\u00a0necessary [in high school]\u00a0because without it you\u00a0aren\u2019t preparing yourself for\u00a0the next level of basketball,\u201d\u00a0senior Myles Baker said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Although the NBA has\u00a0a twenty-four second shot\u00a0clock, a slightly longer\u00a0shot clock could still speed\u00a0up the pace of the game\u00a0for the less &#8211; talented high\u00a0school athletes. \u201cIf we had\u00a0a thirty-five or thirty second\u00a0shot clock, the games\u00a0might be more interesting\u00a0and fast paced,\u201d junior\u00a0DeAndre Whetstone said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Although there were\u00a0two sides, many high\u00a0school players preferred\u00a0a shot clock. \u201cIt\u2019s smart\u00a0to take advantage of it if\u00a0you\u2019re a team who needs\u00a0to hold the ball to win, but\u00a0I\u2019d rather play at a faster\u00a0pace with the shot clock,\u201d\u00a0senior Jaron Faulds said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tyler Brush Holt HS 1st Place Division 1, Yearbook Personality Profile While the rules of most\u00a0sports don\u2019t change\u00a0too drastically from high\u00a0school to college and from\u00a0college to pro, basketball is\u00a0different.
