{"id":2702,"date":"2018-07-17T16:22:50","date_gmt":"2018-07-17T20:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=2702"},"modified":"2018-08-08T16:33:24","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T20:33:24","slug":"another-dive-into-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=2702","title":{"rendered":"Another Dive Into States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Andrew Tokarz<\/strong><br \/>\nEsprit de Corps<br \/>\nEisenhower HS<br \/>\n1st Place<br \/>\nDivision 2, Yearbook<br \/>\nSports Reporting<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Known as successful and competitive, the womens swim and dive team sent six members to States including: senior diver Andrea Bugariu and swimmer Heather Wagner, junior swimmer Abigail Desmet, sophomore swimmers Bianca Licari and Abby Warner, and freshman swimmer Amelia Plonis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI did pretty good, considering we\u2019re a division one school and there are hundreds of competitors at the meet,\u201d Desmet said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Desmet finished ninth place in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 free. Results like that require preparation. Athletes like Warner, who was a relay State qualifier, prepared herself for the meet of a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe tapered and we ate a lot of carbs before, to prepare for it,\u201d Warner said. \u201cWe were all really nervous, but we stayed positive and got through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Nerves don\u2019t come as a surprise in big moments\u2014like a State swim meet\u2014especially for the younger athletes such as Plonis, who was also a State qualifier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI was pretty intimidated, because there was all of these fast swimmers who I had to compete against,\u201d Plonis said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For some, it was their first time at States; but Bugariu, who finished ninth in diving, is a regular at these things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt felt nice knowing that I could make it to states all four years,\u201d Bugariu said. \u201cIt was kind of emotional, because it was my last high school meet; but it was bitter sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Whether it was their first appearance or their final appearance, each girl represented the womens swim and dive program in a positive light, kept the legacy alive for more years to come and created memories along the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt was a pleasure to be there with my teammates, coaches and everyone.
