She<br \/>\nheaded toward JD Michel Salon intending to<br \/>\nsnip off a significant amount of her hair.<br \/>\nOnce Wegener arrived, she booked an<br \/>\nappointment with the receptionist and after<br \/>\na lengthy wait, she was led to a washing<br \/>\nstation to clean and soak her hair. Wegener<br \/>\nsat while her stylist fastened her hair into a<br \/>\nsingle ponytail and made the first cut, leaving<br \/>\nno room for second thoughts.<br \/>\n\u201cAlthough it was an impulsive decision,<br \/>\ndonating my hair had always been on my<br \/>\nbucket list and it was definitely worth the<br \/>\ncause,\u201d Wegener said. \u201cI had 10 inches of my<br \/>\nhair cut off and donated to Children With<br \/>\nHair Loss, an organization dedicated to<br \/>\nproviding wigs to children who can\u2019t grow<br \/>\nhair. I chose this organization because I liked<br \/>\nhow they never charged a child for hair care.\u201d<br \/>\nOne of the many factors that played into her<br \/>\ndecision was the encouragement and support<br \/>\nof her mother. As Wegener\u2019s hair was<br \/>\ntrimmed 10 inches shorter, her mother stood<br \/>\nwith her every step of the way.<br \/>\n\u201cThree years ago, my mother donated<br \/>\nher hair in honor of Katie Wyatt, and she<br \/>\ninspired me to do the same,\u201d Wegener said.<br \/>\n\u201cMy mom came with me to the appointment<br \/>\nto take pictures and support me. Having her<br \/>\nthere made me feel more comfortable and<br \/>\nshe kept me company during the process.\u201d<br \/>\nAfter about an hour with the stylist cutting<br \/>\nher hair, Wegener posed for an \u201cafter\u201d<br \/>\npicture of her new hairdo and she and her<br \/>\nmom left the salon.
