{"id":1165,"date":"2016-11-30T14:54:39","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T19:54:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=1165"},"modified":"2016-11-30T14:54:39","modified_gmt":"2016-11-30T19:54:39","slug":"sadies-for-katie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acutabove.mipamsu.org\/?p=1165","title":{"rendered":"Sadie&#8217;s for Katie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By\u00a0Michael Fabatz, Hannah Swain, Erin Johnson &amp; Emily Hittle<br \/>\n<\/strong>Fentonian<br \/>\nFenton HS<br \/>\nDivision 2, Yearbook<br \/>\nOrganizations Writing<\/p>\n<p>Four years after Katie Wyatt passed away from renal cell carcinoma, the seniors on student council chose to honor her by sending a portion of the profits from the Sadie Hawkins dance to the Rainbow Connection, a charity chosen by her family, in Katie\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause this is the year she would have graduated, it was important to the seniors to find a way to recognize her,\u201d senior Logan Beltinick said. \u201cShe impacted our class with her optimistic attitude and witty personality. She could make anyone smile and put them in a better mood, even when she was in pain. We want to remember who she was and I know there is no other way she would have wanted to end her senior year than dancing alongside her closest friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To honor her impact on the senior class, the student council chose to call the fundraiser Sadie\u2019s for Katie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was excited to hear the Sadie\u2019s fundraiser was dedicated to Katie because she was one of my closest friends when I moved to Fenton in seventh grade,\u201d senior Taylor James said. \u201cIt reassured me that the memory of her still lives on and even though she\u2019s not physically here, she is still affecting people in a positive way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raising money for the cause came from more than just the dance tickets, but also t-shirts that were designed in honor of Katie\u2019s personality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI purchased one of the Sadie\u2019s t-shirts to support the fundraiser in honor of Katie, who had been one of my closest friends since elementary school,\u201d senior Kendrah Praedel said. \u201cThe shirts were blue with pink and black writing on them.
